For Sale: a superb, late-model Centec 2A vertical and horizontal milling machine with, in place of the usual No.2 Morse spindle, a far superior one with a 30 International taper. Mounted on the maker's cabinet stand with chip tray and complete with the swivelling Mk.3 head with both fine downfeed by a handwheel and a quick action drilling lever. The great advantage of this head is that vertical of the spindle travel is along the axis of the cut. The table feed is by both a fine-feed screw and a lever for slotting work.

Fitted with the correct instant speed-change Tri-leva speed selector headstock, the proper bed-mounted 6-station capstan unit that indexes automatically to each station; the Myford screw-operated cut-off slide and the lever-operated collet chuck. For Sale: Leinen MLZ4S high-precision lathe fitted with the maker’s special ‘Multiplicator’ screwcutting and feeds’ gearbox. While ‘cosmetically challenged’, the lathe is in full working order - although engaging the slow-speed backgear needs a little encouragement. Driven by a 3-speed 415v 3-phase motor, the lathe has a 2-speed intermediate drive between motor and headstock. The backlash-free feed-screw dials are graduated to show 0.001" taken off diameter. The spindle bearings are likewise play-free.

For Sale: A superb late-model Cincinnati Toolmaster universal milling machine Type MT. Far stronger than a Bridgeport, this is final, most highly-developed type made during the 1970s and 1980s. Table 47” x 12”, longitudinal travel 30 inches, across 12 inches and vertically 17 inches with three-axis power feeds by variable-speed motors and a very useful powered quill for boring and tapping. The miller was dry stored from 1987 to 2009 when it was fitted with new main power supply wiring and a 3 phase plug.

For Sale: the most desirable of all Adept miniature shapers - the powered No.2 Model. The 2A has a useful 7" x 6" table with vertical T-slots 6-inches high and a ram travel of 6.25". During the early 1950s, Mr F .J. Haynes of Audenshaw, Manchester converted his hand-powered Adept No. 2 shaper to incorporate a powered ram; so impressed were Adept by this professional-looking design that they adopted a modified version of it for production.

Alexander/Deckel FP1 Precision Universal Milling Machine and tooling. I’ll be sorry to see this go, but I need a larger miller and unfortunately do not have the space to keep both. Has been used mainly for making tooling for my other machines, lately just light use on small aluminium and brass parts and, as it's a very rigid machine, it is very accurate.
Due to the arrival of a bigger machine, my Boxford Model C lathe is for sale. 4.5" x 24" with 16 spindle speeds, backgeared, screwcutting and mounted on the maker's stand with a chip tray. Well equipped with a Burnerd 3-jaw chuck, a 6-inch Pratt independent 4-jaw chuck, fixed steady, two 4-way toolposts, two single toolposts, thread-dial indicator, three tailstock chucks, tailstock rotating centre, catchplate, spare chuck backplate, Morse centres and many screwcutting changewheels. Other bits and bobs are included as shown in the photos, but not the cutting tools.
For Sale: Myford ML7R - a near-mint condition, carefully used and one-family-from new example. 3.5” x 19” backgeared, gap-bed and screwcutting. The ML7R was, in effect, just a Super & fitted with late-type ML7 cross and top slides—though this example retains the Super 7 spindle clutch and is fitted with the later and larger zeroing micrometer dials. Mounted on the maker’s cabinet stand with levelling blocks, a deep chip tray and an all-enveloping, full-length splash back and motor shield.

Manufactured 1988 but in excellent, lightly used condition and, being highly versatile, is the ideal machine for the smaller workshop. Complete with a Universal Workhead with a tilt adjustment of 15° each side of vertical and a swivel adjustment of 180° in each direction. The spindle has No. 3 Morse taper spindle and a correct, matching collet chuck and wrench and eight: ¼, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8; 6mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm.
For sale a small, floor-standing vertical and horizontal milling machine by the German maker Belling & Lubke from circa 1900-1914. This beautifully-constructed miller was once in the BSA factory - it has a BSA plaque - and is in excellent condition with the factory scraping still visible on all slides. Horizontal and vertical MT2 spindles, power feed on the X-axis and counterweight in the body to balance the head. Beautiful mechanics and everything in excellent condition.
HARDINGE Model TL HIGH-SPEED, HIGH-RECISION TOOLROOM LATHE - for spares or repair as it needs a bed re-grind. However, all the major components are fully working which include all parts except apron carriage rack. I have, in addition, a 4-inch Burnard chuck and a 5-inch Hardinge chuck with taper and lock screw plus outer jaws, a taper-turning attachment, fixed steady, 4-way toolpost, a new Hardinge chuck backplate complete with the correct taper fixing (these are very hard to find), thirty 5C collets with taper-rachet lock bar.
Raglan Little John Mk. 2 lathe 5" x 24" backgeared, fitted with a screwcutting gearbox, power cross feed, hardened bed and infinitely variable spindle speeds from 38 to 1750 r.p.m. 4-Morse taper headstock spindle running on taper-roller bearings and capable of passing a 1-inch (25 mm) diameter bar. Roller-bearing spindle with the ability to pass a 1-inch (25 mm) bar. Mounted on the correct maker's stand with chip tray and cupboard and drawer storage.
For Sale: a virtually unused Warco WM-16 VS vertical milling machine. This compact machine has a table 700 mm x 180 mm with longitudinal travel of 485 mm, in traverse of 175 and a maximum distance between the spindle nose of 370 mm. Driven by a 1 h.p. single-phase motor, the head tilts left and right through 90° each side of upright and has a No.2 Morse taper spindle with a travel of 50 mm.
Seba shaper, circa1960s. Appears to have an identical technical specification to the Pinondo 350 model (see lathes.co.uk excellent and invaluable database http://www.lathes.co.uk/pinondo). The shaper is extremely well engineered - even the motor drive belt cover is a 10mm thick iron casting - with a 1.5 h.p, 3-phase motor controlled by a variable-speed inverter to facilitate fine control of the ram speed.
SOLD: an unused, unpacked and still-in-its-box-on-a-pallet Warco WM-14 vertical miller complete with a DRO system. I bought this size of miller for a specific job, but which I can now get a friend to on his Bridgeport, so the Warco is now surplus to requirement. The miller is listed on the Warco web site (where the comprehensive specification can be found).
Smart and Brown Model A MkII toolroom lathe for sale. The lathe was restored by its previous owner and has a lovely paint job and engine-turned apron. Everything works very well, the powered feeds in both directions, the very useful autofeed knock-off, the screwcutting gearbox, etc, - all are function perfectly. The Lathe comes with all the tooling S&B ever sold, plus some extras which the previous owner made himself.
Believed to be from the Robert Black factory, this shaper appears to be from the Edwardian period as the style of the only lettering on the down slide indicates ( see photo ) The table size is about 10 X 9 inches, tool down-feed 1.5 inches with a cross feed of 6 inches. Automatic cross feed ( left or right ) can be selected .The main unit is cast iron and the whole unit weighs about 35 kgs. The unit was found in poor condition and had to be refurbished with a new feed-screw and bronze nuts ( 14mm X 3 mm Pitch ).
For Sale: Lorch KD50 lathe. I bought this lathe for restoration, but my plans have changed and it’s now for sale. Highly desirable in good condition, the tiny and rare KD50 had a centre height of just 50 mm - making it the smallest of the Lorch precision bench lathes. Available in just one bed length of 400 mm, with a between-centers capacity of 185 mm, the spindle has a bore of 8 mm and carries collets with a maximum through-bore of 5 mm and a non-through of 7 mm.
For Sale: Myford ML7 Lathe 3.5" x 20" gap-bed, backgeared, screwcutting and mounted on a good metal stand. I acquired this lathe 10 years ago when I was clearing out my dad's workshop. It was working and in regular use at that time. Since then it has been oiled, covered and store unused. Although rather scruffy looking, everything moves freely. The motor is a single-phase GEC with a Dewhurst reversing switch. Included with the ML7 is a set of Myford quick-set "boat" tooling, 3-jaw chuck with both sets of jaws, faceplate, tailstock chuck, Morse centres.

Clark Lathe: a brand new bed and headstock for the 500 series Models - complete with 3-speed V-belt pulley and integral feed-shaft gearbox. In addition, a standard motor mount and support bracket is incuded and the original transport pallet . The overall length is 940 mm by 200 mm wide and 380 mm high. The dovetail bed is 134 mm wide and measures 160 mm from the base. SOLD: Lorch LLV high-precision lathe 65mm x 225mm with a single-phase motor. Complete with an 80mm 3-jaw chuck with both sets of jaws, a 4-jaw independent chuck, two tailstocks one a lever-action type the other screw-feed, faceplate, backplate and a spindle-nose protector. Colchester Student Mk.1.5 lathe with the single-lever safety apron, a gap-bed, imperial graduations - and still in the maker's original paint finish. Serial number 2/53600. The lathe was purchased from Inter-City Machine Tools around 1996 and since then has been used entirely for hobby purposes.
Harrison vertical and horizontal milling machine - metric graduations. I have owned this miller for 20 years and use it frequently; it's in good condition and full working order. Complete with a INT30 vertical head and a horizontal arbor complete with spacers and keys and support. The 30" x 8" table swivels, making the machine a true "Universal". The horizontal arbor has been rarely used by me and is in excellent condition. The table power feed has never worked in my ownership - but the gearbox for it is in good condition and I suspect it may need a new motor or wiring.

For Sale: Sphere 5" x 24" backgeared and screwcutting lathe with power cross feed. English-manufactured, this lathe was based on the Atlas 10" and allows large jobs to be accommodated on a very compact footprint. Fitted with a built-on, all-V-belt drive countershaft giving 16 speeds from a recent 1-phase motor and push-button emergency stop. Mounted on a metal stand and complete with two 3-jaw chuck, the correct half-depth body 6-inch 4-jaw chuck, faceplate, a set of screwcutting changewheels, tailstock chuck and a thread-dial indicator.
Champion Miniature Drilling Machine. A 1/4 inch capacity bench drill in good working and cosmetic condition. The originally painted parts have been stripped down, painted in a zinc-rich primer and top coated in a green gloss. The whole unit has been cleaned, adjusted and then greased prior to re-assembly. The drilling table is very clean, showing a few minor dings, so I suspect the drill has seen little use. The drill chuck and key appear to be original and have been manufactured by Almond of Conn.
An original Adept No.1 hand-operated shaping machine - a machine that has seen a very sheltered life and dates from the period 1935 to around 1960, The whole unit has been stripped down, the sliding surfaces polished to ensure smooth action and then lubricated with the correct slideway oil. Considering the original cost, they were very well made and now represent a fascinating introduction to the art of the hand-operated shaper in a compact form. Table 4 x 5 inches, ram travel 4 inches and a down feed of about 2 inches.
For Sale: Hauser high-precision vertical and horizontal clock and instrument maker’s milling machine. Although typical of the many specialised machines Hauser made for the watch and clock industry, this example is a more versatile type with a built-in rotary table. Lever-feed travels on both slides and rotary table all with adjustable screw-stops. X-axis travel 35mm, Y-axis travel 35mm and Z-axis travel 50mm. The vertical movements are two-fold: by the head slide and lifting the table. The spindle takes 10 mm Pultra collets held with the included drawbar.

Clock and Watchmakers Milling Machine by John Stevens - one of a small batch of these superbly engineered millers by a leading maker of these specialised, very high precision machine tools. In excellent order and mounted neatly on a drawer cabinet (a genuine Edison radio cabinet!) holding the variable-speed drive power pack for the main motor and the power supply for the sensitive drilling attachment. The cabinet drawer is fitted to hold the dividing head, machine vice and drilling attachment, etc.

For Sale: a late-model Granville Star lathe 4" x 24" gap-bed, backgeared, screwcutting and mounted on a strong stand. This well-built lathe is neatly arranged with a built-on, all-V-belt-drive countershaft unit driven by a single-phase motor that gives twelve spindle speeds of 40, 70, 100, 120, 190, 240, 320, 460, 660, 900, 1300 and 2000 rpm. The 13/16” bore, No.3 Morse taper headstock spindle runs in taper-roller bearings while the slow-speed backgear is of the quick-to-operate, single-lever type.
For Sale: An English-made Sharp Universal Vertical and Horizontal Milling Machine. A most versatile and adaptable machine with both horizontal and vertical capacity and ideal for model and experimental work. Known history from new in 1981, I’m the second owner. The miller is driven by two single-phase 0.5 h.p. motors: one powering the vertical head, the other the horizontal spindle - the latter fitted with a slow-speed backgear that allows the use of heavy cutters on the horizontal spindle to take deep cuts.

For Sale in excellent, original condition - a Coronet Minorette multi-function woodworking machine. The unit has a planer, sawbench, mortising attachment and a tilting sanding table. Double-spindle, Single-phase Gryphon motor just fitted with a new £75 No-Volt safety-release starter and overload protection. The unit is mounted on well-made hardwood stand fitted with new casters from Axminster (£61) castors for ease of moving about. It could do with a new drive belt, but is otherwise in perfect working order.
Colchester Student 1800 lathe. 6.5-inch (165 mm) centre height with a capacity between centres of 25 inches (635 mm). Hardened bed with a detachable gap piece and 16 spindle speeds from 30 to 1800 r.p.m.
Schaublin Type 13 Vertical and horizontal toolroom-class milling machine (Swiss-manufactured with serial number 136). Built in 954 (a year younger than me!) and well cared for but does need a clean as can be seen in the pictures. I don't know a lot about this miller, but it came with the Leinen lathe also advertised here and shares the same ex-Rolls-Royce colour scheme - as does a Schaublin 102 which we are keeping. Happy to provide more detail and photographs if required - and demonstrate it running.

For Sale: Beaver VBRP turret vertical milling machine (configured exactly like a Bridgeport) complete and in full working order. Driven directly and also though a slow speed backgear for heavier work, the head can be moved in and out, swung on the main column, rotated and nodded. The 10-inch wide table is hardly marked and the longest of the various options at 56 inches; nine rates of power feed are provided with longitudinal travel of 31.5”, in traverse of 14.5” and 14.5 inches vertically.
Colchester Triumph 2000 lathe 7.5” x 30” mounted on the maker’s stand with a full-length splashback and slide-out chip tray. Induction hardened and ground-finished bed with a detachable gap that allows work up to 23-inches (580 mm) to be swung. The spindle has D1-6” hardened spindle nose and runs in super-precision Gamet bearings. 16 spindle speeds from 25 to 2000 r.p.m.
For Sale: Tom Senior Major ELT Universal vertical and horizontal milling machine. In superb, little-used condition this top-of-the-range Tom Senior is the very rare ELT that incorporated a number of improvements and refinements over earlier models including the swing table, a strong dovetail overarm in place of the round type, an extended table with greater travels, a larger and more rigid knee and chain instead of belt-driven table power feeds, a No. 30 INT horizontal spindle end fitting and twelve speeds 50 to 1660 r.p.m.
For Sale: An exceptional Lilian Model 3-VH all-metric, ram-head milling machine which has been in my home workshop for 18 years. Built in 1999, the miller was first owned by a medical research company from whom I purchased it when they closed. For Sale: a superb, one-owner and lightly-used Myford ML7 lathe 3.5" x 20" gap-bed, backgeared and screwcutting. Used only for model engineering the lathe is a late-model example with the larger Super 7 leadscrew and its bedways showing the original machining marks.
For Sale: IXL lathe backgeared and screwcutting with a 5.5-inch centre height and around 20 inches between centres and fitted with a T-slotted cross slide to take a milling slide. Stored unused in a dehumidified garage, unused for the last 29 years.
Alpine Mill/Drill. A nice compact machine ideal for vertical milling and accurate co-ordinate drill. This is the best of its type with a bevel gearbox at the base of the column that allows the head to be elevated without losing alignment. The quill has both rapid downfeed and a fine fed through worm-and-wheel gearing. Spindle speeds range from 110 to 1750 r.p.m. Comes apart easily for transport. In use at present and can be seen working on my single-phase supply. Only selling to make room for a larger miller and a bargain at £450 for a quick sale.

For Sale: Clarkson Mk.1 tool and cutter grinder together with most of the essential attachments including centres, arbors, sleeves and a hard-to-find “drill and tap lead grinding attachment” in little-used condition. Fitted with new head bearings six months ago and little used since. New grinding wheels just are fitted and the machine has a proper industrial-class light unit and the maker’s instruction book.
For Sale: Drummond B-Type flat-bed, 3.5” x 15” gap-bed, backgeared, screwcutting and with auto-disengage to the carriage drive; serial No. 11-77 built 1912-1921. In perfect working order - and only two owners from new. The first owner was a development engineer-cum-toolmaker and had the lathe from new until his death in 1968.
Antique Brown Brothers lathe. Around 4.5" centre height and 36” between centres. Gap-bed, backgeared, screwcutting and, interestingly, power cross feed driven by a rear-mounted power shaft connected to the lathe's changewheels. Having stood unused for a number of years the lathe needs cosmetic refurbishment -but is complete, original and well equipped.
