A superb Milnes Model R lathe 4" x 20" gap-bed, backgeared and screwcutting with a special worm-and-wheel drive to the leadscrew for ultra-fine feeds. Mounted on the maker's stand with a single-phase motor and Dewhurst reversing switch. Very recently in daily use by a watchmaker and repairer, this is a superb working example of the Milnes and comes complete with a large amount of tooling. Fitted with all V-belt drive giving, with backgear, sixteen spindle speeds, 3-jaw chuck, 4-jaw independent chuck, 4-way toolpost, faceplate and a very large set of screwcutting changewheels. The 'photos below tell the story - the lathe is in marvellous condition. Cash on collection, please - and assistance can be given dismantling (if required) for moving (it comes apart relatively easily). Manufactured from the late 1800s until the 1920s, the 4" x 20" Milnes Model "R" was a heavily-built and well-specified machine. Sold when new at a premium price, it enjoyed something of a reputation as being the "Rolls-Royce" of small lathes.
