For Sale: An English-made Sharp Universal Vertical and Horizontal Milling Machine. A most versatile and adaptable machine with both horizontal and vertical capacity and ideal for model and experimental work. Known history from new in 1981, I’m the second owner. The miller is driven by two single-phase 0.5 h.p. motors: one powering the vertical head, the other the horizontal spindle - the latter fitted with a slow-speed backgear that allows the use of heavy cutters on the horizontal spindle to take deep cuts. 16'' x 4.5'' ground-finished table with two T-slots and able to be swung 25° in either direction from central - so allowing it to be properly described as a "universal". Longitudinal travel 12'', across 4.5” and vertically 10.5”. The feed-screws are 10 t.p.i. Acme form and, fitted with dull-plated, easy-to-read micrometer dials, they run through generously-sized bronze nuts. Both horizontal and vertical spindles run in taper-roller bearings and are fitted with a standard Myford Series 7 lathe spindle-nose thread. Well equipped with a swivelling indexing head with tailstock, Clarkson Autolock chuck with a set of both English and metric collects, large and small slotting attachments and a machine vice. The spindle turns within 0.001” accuracy. Only age compels me to sell as I’ve downgraded to smaller machine tools. The miller is in perfect working order and very accurate. £1250 Details of Sharp millers here
