For Sale: Antique Milnes Lathe with Ornamental Turning Attachments
Antique Milnes Lathe with Ornamental Turning Attachments 4.5" x 30" gap-bed, backgeared and screwcutting and with power cross feed. One-family ownership from new - my great-grandfather bought it - and in beautiful condition. Complete on the maker's treadle stand and fitted with the correct "overhead" to drive toolpost-mounted high-speed grinding and milling spindles. In addition to the treadle drive, a well-engineered electric drive is fitted (though I have only ever used the treadle and never tried the electric - so I cannot comment on its state). Complete with a wide range of accessories including two "'rectilinear" chucks, a milling slide, saw bench, a large set of screwcutting changewheels, several 3-jaw chucks, hand-turning rests, steadies, faceplate clamps, drive dogs, off-set and standard Morse centres, angle plate, milling spindles, drill sets, and a set of books:
On lathes and turning - Northcott, Know your Lathe, Engineering Metallurgy - Woodward, Workshop Processes for Mechanical Engineering Technicians - Pritchard, Turning Lathes - Ed. Lukin, Metal spinning, The Craftsman Woodturner - Child and Tools for Woodworkers - Melhuish & Sons. The lathe was supplied without micrometer dials on the feed screws but my grandfather made a set of large-diameter ones in bronze - and they do look appropriate. £950 or offers.
