Fobco Star "Universal" drilling machine. A splendid example of a very late model Fobco ‘Universal’ with one violin-maker owner from new. It has a No.2 Morse taper spindle, a standard "Myford" thread that allows the fitting of 2 Morse taper collets. It's fitted with a precision, keyless drill chuck. This is a very late machine, bought by me new in 1990 when I started out as a violin- and cello-maker.  I have a second Fobco, which I use daily, but this example has always been kept ‘for best’ and so has had very little use and remains in A1 condition.  1-phase Brook-Crompton motor and fitted with a no-volt release push-button starter.  The table is completely unmarked.  It comes with the original guard. It is very unusual to find a Fobco "Universal", still less one in pristine condition - and it is capable of light milling.
