Portass Model S lathe 3" x 16" gap-bed, backgeared and screwcutting. Mounted on the maker's stand with the original and rather unusual "compound drive" from a new 1.1 kW single-phase motor with a starter switch. A restoration of the lathe has been undertaken and it's now in full working order. As an example of the work undertaken, one arm of the casting supporting the back gear shaft was damaged; a new arm was grafted on (aircraft standard) then line bored and new bearings installed. New headstock bearings, oil pots, drive belts, 1.1Kw electric motor and starter switch. With the lathe is a set of screwcutting changewheels, the original 3-inch 3-jaw chuck. a new 4-inch 3-jaw chuck with both inner/outer jaws, a backplate, tailstock chuck (0-13mm), 4.5-inch faceplate, 2.25" backplate, a tailstock centre, the makers brass screw cutting data plate and a new tap and die to suit headstock spindle thread.
