Colchester "Master" and "Triumph"Early Lathes (1930s to early 1950s with an cast-iron plinth under headstock and a leg under the tailstock end). These lathe were sold with centre heights from 6 to 7.5 inches and badged as both "Master" and "Triumph" models. Unfortunately data published by the Company for their early lathes was either non existent or skimpy - and information about early Colchester Master lathes (before about 1953/4) has been difficult to find. No proper handbook was published until a small A5 edition, complete with a photographic parts list, of the late 1940s. Unfortunately even this was not complete - it lacked the comprehensive screwcutting data of the later, larger editions (though the screwcutting arrangement was, actually, identical).
To make as much information as possible available I have put together a high-quality pack of data of everything known: it consists of the first handbook for the Master/Student, the screwcutting sheets from the next edition, the complete Parts Manual from the next edition (many items are the same and the pictures much clearer) and 64 pages of early Colchester Sales & Specification Literature showing all the various models of Master lathe made and most of the other lathes made by Colchester from the same era.
