This is the older type of Lang with heavy and separate cast-iron plinths beneath the headstock and tailstock. On the 13-inch to the left and right-hand sides of the headstock's front face are two vertical levers and, in the centre a lever that works through a horizontal 6-position gate. The 17-inch has a single vertical lever to the right and the 6-position gate in the centre.
